Determining Jurisdiction in a Multi State Child Custody Dispute

The Family Law Managing Associate, Elyse Butler, of Boyd Contreras, APC recently won a complex jurisdictional matter involving a child custody dispute and the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction And Enforcement Act (UCCJEA). This act vests "exclusive and continuing jurisdiction" for child custody litigation in the courts of the child's "home state". In cases where a child's "home state" is in question, it is necessary to have a strong litigation attorney to examine witness and argue effectively in trial.
