DHS ANNOUNCES NEW INITIATIVES TO SPARK ECONOMY AND ATTRACT ENTREPENEURS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano and USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas recently announced a series of policy initiatives designed to "fuel the nation's economy and stimulate investment" by attracting foreign entrepreneurs and highly skilled workers to America. The DHS is hoping these initiatives will make it easier for high-skill immigrants to start and grow companies and spur job growth here in the United States. Moreover, this policy remains in-line with President Obama’s pledge to “win the future” by ensuring that U.S. innovation and competiveness continue to triumph in a global economy.

Included in the initiatives are:

  • Availability of EB -2 National Interest Waivers to Entrepreneurs; 
  • Clarify the potential availability of H-1B Visas to Entrepreneurs; 
  • New Procedures for Processing EB-5 Petitions;
  • Premium Processing Service Available to Additional Employment-Based Visa Categories, and
  • New Engagement Opportunities for Entrepreneurs and Startup Companies to seek input and feedback on how to address the unique circumstances of entrepreneurs, new businesses and startup companies.

It is the hope of the administration that these policy initiatives will assist in providing streamlined and uniform adjudications by USCIS staff and result in improved rules and procedures being implemented to attract and retain high-skill entrepreneurs in the U.S.
