Peer Review Rated for Ethical Standards and Legal Ability

Choosing a lawyer is an important decision. You want to find the right person to handle your legal issue, to make the best use of your time and money and to have a positive experience. So, how do you choose the right one?

Using Web-based ratings and reviews can be invaluable as you seek to make the best hiring decision. On Lawyers.com, there are several features and functions that provide you with important information when searching for the right lawyer, including Peer Review Ratings (PRR). These lawyer-to-lawyer ratings tell you what other lawyers have to say about the lawyer or law firm you're considering for hire.

Peer Review Ratings - Getting the Big Picture

Peer Review Ratings give you one type of review, based on lawyers' feedback on the lawyer you're considering. These reviews can be a part of the big picture you'll want to have before you make your final hiring decision. They're also straightforward and transparent, and aren't based on a mathematical formula or algorithm that you might not understand.

From a lawyer or law firm's profile page, which you can find using the Find a Lawyer feature, you can also access Client Reviews. These reviews provide feedback based on clients' experiences working with your prospective lawyer. Combining these review resources with the background or factual information you'll find in a lawyer's profile means that you can be smart about your selection, and the process can be easier than you thought possible. Finally, you can rest assured in your decision.

What Is a Peer Review Rating?

Lawyers provide review and rating feedback on other lawyers':

  • Professionalism and adherence to ethical standards
  • Legal Ability and qualifications

The Peer Review Rating is also based on the length of time a lawyer has been practicing law. The Peer Review Rating categories are:

  • Preeminent AVTM applies to those lawyers at the highest level of professional excellence. It's a significant accomplishment, usually achieved by lawyers with 10 years or more experience, though not always. This means the lawyer has a numeric rating of 4.5-5.0 on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest possible score.
  • Distinguished BVTMis an excellent rating for an experienced lawyer, also. The numeric rating for this category is 3.0-4.4 out of 5.
  • Rated means a score of 1.0-2.9 out of 5.

The coverage of Peer Review Ratings is broad-over 70% of the US lawyer population has been reviewed, and more will be added. However, absence of a review rating shouldn't be viewed negatively.
