"WHEN in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

The preamble to the Declaration of Independence makes a strong statement and was revolutionary for the colonies and for people throughout the world at the time.

Most of us have taken civics class, perhaps in Junior High School or maybe earlier; if you're an immigrant to the US, you'll learn this information when you take your citizenship test so it may be a little fresher in your mind.

As we watch the fireworks and eat lots of food, remember all the men and women who fought to create this country in the Revolutionary War and work hard everyday to make this a great country, even if you don't think they do. Renew your knowledge about how the government works.
