LexisNexis Unveils New Version of lawyers.com

#1 Online Legal Directory Gets Major Redesign to Improve User Experience and Make Attorney Credentials More Accessible to Consumers Seeking a Lawyer

New Providence, N.J. - February 19, 2007 - Press Release - LexisNexis, the leading provider of client development solutions for the legal profession, today announced the launch of a new version of lawyers.comSM, its award-winning Web site for consumers and small businesses.

The lawyers.com service, which has been declared the number-one lawyer directory on the Internet for three consecutive years, is now built around a more robust search engine that allows users to conduct richer and more specific searches for attorneys listed in the Martindale-Hubbell® database. These new search tools include a "free text" query that allows more flexible searching by keywords, a "pick list" that enables users to select multiple criteria when conducting attorney searches, and the ability to refine search results with more narrow secondary searches.

One powerful new capability that the enhanced database search engine creates is a variety of online sponsorship opportunities for law firms in which they can make their credentials more accessible to consumers seeking an attorney according to various keywords, not just specific areas of practice. For example, law firms can purchase keyword paid placements for common litigation terms and improve the chances that a link to their firms' listing will appear as a sponsored result alongside the user's directory search results.

"The lawyers.com service continues to extend its lead as the most frequently consulted online lawyer directory in every meaningful statistical category, with the industry-leading Internet traffic service reporting that we have four times the pages per visitor and three times the total directory pages viewed than our nearest competitor," said Joseph Douress, senior vice president of LexisNexis Client Development Services. "We decided to give the site a redesign in order to offer a better and more intuitive user experience. After extensive eye-tracking studies and usability testing, the site was overhauled to present a fresh appearance for users with a more up-to-date design look and feel."

According to Douress, the site was also modified so that law firms with professional biographical listings in the Martindale-Hubbell database are now able to add lawyer photographs and law firm logos to their online listings. This offers law firms the ability to deliver a more personalized presentation of their credentials and personalities to prospective clients.

The new version of lawyers.com has also been redesigned by Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts in order to improve the frequency with which law firm listings from lawyers.com appear in the results when consumers go to a popular Internet search engine to search for a lawyer.

The lawyers.com service is a key component of the LexisNexis Client Development Solutions line, which provides industry leading networking and marketing resources to help law firms target clients, build their brand, develop new business opportunities and provide exceptional client service. Through its four solutions lines - Client Development, Research, Practice Management and Litigation Services - LexisNexis offers Total Practice Solutions to help ensure that law firms have the tools and services they need to win in the business and practice of law.
