Congratulations - you're getting married! Whether you're planning a large affair or a quiet elopement, there's a lot to consider - and a lot that can be overlooked.

First things first - you want to start your marriage off on the right foot. Since almost half of all marriages end in divorce, it's critical to enter your marriage as prepared as possible - both from an emotional and legal perspective.

What are we talking about? Before you say "I do", here are a few things to consider:
  • Pre-nuptial agreements. You're probably asking yourself, "If I'm in love, why do I need a pre-nuptial?" The truth is, prenups can actually bring harmony to a relationship by addressing your concerns about financial issues before problems occur. And in the event of divorce, prenups dramatically reduce emotional stress.
  • Another thing to consider is wedding Insurance. All weddings have chaos. You're relying on a lot of people to do their jobs properly to make your day a success. Insurance protects your investment - and your big day.
  • Finally, be sure to consider vacation time. Make sure you understand your company's rules before you plan your honeymoon. And, once you plan your trip, consider travel insurance, so your big trip goes off without a hitch.

What do you need to do after the big day?

Did your name change? Remember to update all important documents.

Are you combining finances? Contact those financial institutions to add your spouse's information.

What about insurance? Don't forget to consider medical plans, life insurance policies and drafting a will or a trust.
